Hi there, welcome to NeuroKind Consulting β€οΈπ§‘ππππ
I am so happy you're here!
My name is Jessica Reamon, but you can call me Jess. My pronouns are she/they. I live in Portland, Oregon.
I grew up in a small town town called Dodgeville, Wisconsin.Β I went to college at UW-Oshkosh and studied to get my Bachelor's degrees in both Elementary Education and Special Education, with a dual teaching license to teach both (grades 1-8). I then moved to Milwaukee, WI where I completed my student teaching experience. I stayed in Milwaukee Public Schools, where I taught in a 3rd grade classroom for half of a year, and then was excessed due to budget cuts and placed in a Comprehensive Autism Unit where I taught 1st-3rd graders with a Special Education eligibility of Autism, for five years.Β I then moved to Portland in August 2021 and was an Autism Consultant with NWRESD for four years.
Β It was in Milwaukee where I began to see and learn about the impact of trauma and adversity on relationships and learning.Β Many of my students I served had experienced trauma and adversity, on top of their disabilities.Β During this time, Autism also became my Special Interest. I dove into nuanced topics, read books written by Autistic individuals, and followed as many Autistic folks as I could on Social Media platforms.Β I stopped using any type of Behaviorist approach (e.g. positive reinforcement, rewards) and began my journey in understanding more nuanced, Neurodiversity-Affirming approaches while utilizing a trauma-informed lens.
As an Autism Consultant with NWRESD I started learning about different presentations of Autism and what Autism can look like in more nuanced presentations, especially as I began evaluating children who were AFAB. I then began questioning my own neurotype, and received an official Autism diagnosis in August 2024. During this time I also received a few different certifications: one in Applied Educational Neuroscience with an Emphasis on Adversity & Trauma, and one in DIR Floortime (Basic).Β
Since gaining my DIR Floortime certification, I have decided to begin working directly with children again (April 2025), while still being able to share all that I have learned through my experiences and certifications, and this is how NeuroKind Consulting came to be. For more information about my approach and the scientific underpinnings of it all, feel free to head on over to that page to learn more.
